the practice

write around now is a practice that uses prompt-based writing as a way to slow down, sharpen your perception, and connect more deeply to both your interior and exterior world. at its heart is a simple, reciprocal idea: The more closely we observe, the more creatively we can respond-- and the more we practice creating, the more closely we learn to see.
we begin with a prompt. a prompt creates spontaneity-- a small opening where you can focus your mind's activity. perhaps it's a sound you've heard a thousand times. the quality of light in a room. something that someone said once that stayed with you. The shape of a tree. your daughter's hands. the details of an ordinary tuesday.
we move through much of our lives without really seeing it all. technology and modernity rob us of our attention.
writing gives us a way to reclaim it.
write around now is a practice for everyone. you don't need to be a professional or even an aspiring writer. you don't need an interesting story, a polished idea, or anything profound to say.
the practice is less about perfection and more about process.
there is no right or wrong way to go about it. you can write for five minutes or fifty. you can write a sentence, a list, a fragment, or a page. you can return to the same prompt more than once. what matters is the ritual. What matters is the noticing. attention feeds creativity. creativity deepens attention. write around now exists in the fecundity between the two.
